Robert William Kinsey

Robert William Kinsey lost his battle with dementia on July 12, 2024 at Chatsworth Health Care. Robert was born in the am on May 20, 1942 at his home, just across Walker County line. Dr. Broadrick came in his horse and buggy to the Kinsey home in the pm, too late. Robert always said the Doc probably got paid with a couple of chickens and maybe some vegetables from the garden. Robert’s life was spent on the west side of Whitfield County or just over the line in Walker County. He was a proud member of the 1960 West Side High School graduating class. Robert raced stock cars in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee from 1970 until the mid-eighties. He had a parts store and speed shop during most of this period. In the mid eighties he re-opened N. Ga. Raceway in Chatsworth, Ga., which had been closed for several years. That year by the 4th of July he was having well over 100 cars per race. Robert was named “Promoter of the Year” by T.A.G. Racing News located in Huntsville, Ala. In 1988.Mike Acklin said in his article regarding the award, “Robert Kinsey and his staff go out of their way to treat fans and drivers with the utmost respect and courtesy. When you leave the races at Roberts track you feel good”. Robert was preceded in death by his son and best friend, Griffin Kinsey, mother, Ada Beavers Kinsey, father, Emory Kinsey, siblings, Retha, Ruth, Ruby, and Roy, and special uncle, Ralph Kinsey. He is survived by his wife Joyce Kinsey, step-son and back-up guy, Eric Bryant, grandchildren, Zachary Kinsey and Kayla Kinsey, step-granddaughter, Yasmin Bryant, Andrew Rattanaxay, who he thought of as a grandson, Great grandchildren Jace, Brylee, Layton, and Lyrik Kinsey. Brothers, Richard Kinsey, and Rufus Kinsey. Brother-in-law, Barry Springfield. Sisters-in-law Shirley Vaughn, and Kim Vaughn Nance. Racing Partner and friend, Bill Gowin. A number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to give a special thank you to everyone at Health Care in Chatsworth, Ga. for being so kind, and taking such tender care of Robert Kinsey “the fastest man in the wheelchair”. To the Tapestry Hospice of Calhoun, Ga. I, Robert’s wife, can never thank you enough. You were always there to help me with the daily changes, and especially in the end to lead me and Robert though. Per arrangements made by Robert many years ago there will be no formal funeral services. Robert’s suggestion would be to take someone who is very important in your life out to dinner. Be sure to tell them that this dinner is at Roberts suggestion. However, you know he is not picking up the tab.
