Jane's parents moved to Cocoa, FL in 1957 when her father was employed at Patrick AFB in Melbourne, FL and her mother taught Home Economics at Cocoa High School. Jane was a 1961 honor graduate of Cocoa High School and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education with honors from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL in 1965. To complete her senior year she taught Business Education classes at Maynard Evans High School as part of her practice teaching. Jane was a "big sister" in Phi Mu Sorority at FSU and served as Rush Chairman her senior year. She was also the sorority leading honor graduate. Upon graduation, she was employed by Martin Marietta Corporation in Cocoa, FL in the company's APOLLO SPACE MANAGEMENT DIVISION. Shortly there after she was hired as the lead secretary in NASA's SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT OFFICE at the John F. Kennedy Space Center. Jane met her husband Allen who also worked at the SPACE CENTER for Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV)Aerospace Corporation. The company married on June 25,1966. They then moved to Clemson, SC after Allen accepted a position in the University's Public Relations Office. In 1972 the couple moved to Dalton, GA when Allen accepted the position of Director of Public Relations with The Carpet and Rug Institute, the industry's Dalton based trade association. Not to be outdone Jane taught courses in Business in the Dalton Public School System and headed the Federal Government's CETA Business Education Program through Dalton Junior College. Both subsequently completed their respective college educations at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA each graduating with high honors. Jane also continued her education during this time by obtaining her Master of Science degree in Business Education at West Georgia College in Carrollton, GA in 1986. Her father spent his entire military career in the Pacific and survived the battle of Okinawa.
