Bessie Jane Martin, passed away September 24, 2026. She was born October 2, 1933 in Rossville, GA, one of three children of the late Clarence Clements (C.C) & Minnie Fair Bullock. Jane was also preceded in death by her husband, Cleston Dale Martin, brother, Shelby Bullock, & sister, Nancy Ann Blakeman.

Jane attended Rossville High School where she was on the homecoming court & graduated in 1951. Jane resided most of her life in Dalton, GA as a devoted mother to her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Morris Overby. Jane became a Christian at a young age, & was very faithful in attending church. She lived life with optimism & enthusiasm which was reflected by her smiles & gentle nature.

Jane was a meticulous seamstress who made her own sewing patterns, wanting every stitch precise. She enjoyed reading which included history, especially the biographies of the famous, historical Aristocrats. She enjoyed decorating her home, making crafts & flower arrangements, & the beauty of her flower garden of Geraniums, Irises & Roses.

In addition to all these attributes, Jane was a "Fashionista". She really enjoyed shopping…clothes, shoes, handbags & jewelry. She looked entirely cohesive, as if every element of her outfit had been curated by an artist. Her signature style attire was leopard & zebra print.

Jane is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Rebecca S. Overby (Troy), four grandchildren; Tiffany Colangelo (Jerry), Troy Lee Overby II (Shannon), Tanesha Mowry (Jeremiah) & Tara Overby (fiancé Will Smith), six great-grandchildren; Ella Rose, Addeline Jane & Easton Van Mowry; Troy Lee III, Lyla Caroline, & Luke James Overby. Special nieces, Robbie Brown, and Rita Ledford and many other nieces also survive, special friends; Richard & Dorothy Jackson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM from the Chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Reverend Dale Brewer officiating. Interment will follow in the local West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Dalton Funeral Home Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 2:00 PM until the service hour.
