Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Betty Putnam Phillips, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who departed this life on April 19, 2026, at Hamilton Medical Center. Born on July 14, 1934, Betty’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and hard work.

A 1951 graduate of Dalton High School and alumna of Harris School of Business, Betty devoted many years to serving in the clerical accounting field. Her diligent work ethic was matched only by her deep commitment to her family and community. As a devoted member of South Dalton Baptist Church, she found spiritual strength that carried her through life’s trials and triumphs.

Betty was a loving mother and grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her.

Her memory will live on vividly in the hearts of those who loved her dearly: her son, Terry (Judy) Putnam; her grandson, Josh (Danielle) Putnam; great-grandchildren, Palmer Putnam, Lyla Putnam, Luke Putnam, and Brynn Putnam. Betty was also lovingly remembered by her step-sons, Donnie (Sandra) Phillips and Ivan (Leah) Phillips, along with her step-grandchildren Blakely (Patrick) Winicki, Hunter Phillips, Lauren Phillips, Isaac Phillips, and William Phillips. She is survived by her brother, Harold (Nancy) Walsh, whose presence provided a lifelong bond of brotherly love.

Betty’s family holds close the memory of those who passed before her: her parents, Harold and Leon Harrison Walsh; her beloved first husband and father of her only child, Reverend Bill Putnam; her second husband, Don Phillips; and her sister, Peggy (Donald) Bailey. Their spirits intertwine with hers in the tapestry of her life’s story.

Visitation for Betty Putnam Phillips will be held on April 24, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Dalton Funeral Home, located at 620 S Glenwood Ave, Dalton, GA 30721. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the same location, with Pastors Danny Edwards, and Tom Whitsett officiating, providing one final opportunity to honor a remarkable woman whose loving heart and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Pallbearers serving are as follows: Josh Putnam, Kelly Putnam, Jeremy Bailey, Daymon Duckett, David Hasty, Jr., Trevor Pierce. Honorary Pallbearer: Luke Michael Putnam.

Betty’s journey reminds us that life is made meaningful through love, faith, and the connections we nurture. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the quiet strength she embodied and the unwavering love she shared. May her soul rest peacefully, wrapped in the warmth of the memories she created and the legacy she leaves behind.
