Charley Denton Wells was born in Dickenson County, Virginia, on May 22nd 1945 to the late Hobart Axel Wells and Evelyn Geraldine Daniels.

Denton's passion and love for his family was matched only by his faith in his heavenly father. The two most consequential moments of his life being when he married his wife, Betty on November 7th 1964 and when he dedicated his life to God.

Later in life the lord called him to preach, and Denton spent countless hours guiding lost souls to Jesus. His light showed everywhere he went, in a true testament to unwavering faith. Some of his proudest moments were baptizing his grandchildren, as well as his own mother.

He became a prolific photographer over the years, chronicling his beloved family’s life and growth through his lens.

Denton devoted himself to documenting the ever-expanding family, capturing not only its milestones but the quiet, everyday moments that gave life its meaning.

His deep affection for his subjects and his appreciation for the beauty and power of ordinary life extended beyond his family, finding expression in photographs of his home in Southwest Virginia, its cars, and the people and places that shaped his world.

Denton developed a passion for cars as a young man; whether it be restoring vintage cars with his son, reading a car magazine, or taking his family to the Rod Run in Gatlinburg every chance he got.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Green, brothers, Donnie, Ricky, Darrell, and Steve Large, and stepfather Johnny Raymond Large.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Wells, of Dalton Georgia, son, Charlie Denton Wells Jr. of Dalton Georgia, daughter, Sherry Lynn Henderson of Dalton, Georgia, grandchildren Elijah Henderson and Nathaniel Grant and his wife Bouket Fingerhut, and great-grandchild Daisy Fingerhut-Grant, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 30,2026 at 2:30 PM from the Chapel of Dalton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM at the funeral home.
