Obituary

Dallas Lesley Sutherland, age 86, passed Wednesday, December 8, 2015 away at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born August 4, 1929 to the late William Andrew and Leona Sheriff Sutherland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Tommie Stewart Sutherland on September 23, 2015; brothers, Howard, Hubert and A.B. Sutherland; and sisters, Loren Jackson, Gladys Padgett, Edna McDougle, and Bertha Thomas. Mr. Sutherland was a Veteran having served as a medic in the army during the Korean conflict. He had worked since the age of fourteen at Clockman Mills in Shannon, GA; Lockheed in Marietta, GA; Cox Hatchery in Calhoun, GA; until which time he met Milton Rather and they together constructed the first fully automated poultry farm, later established Dal-Ge Poultry Farm in Calhoun, GA. He was a successful business man, farmer and never met a stranger. He is survived by his children, Dennis and Marsha Adams, their son, Cody Adams; Mary Holden, her children, Jody Holden, and Anna Rose Holden; a very special family friend, Donna Thomas; nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. No funeral service is planned; however, the family will receive friends after 5:00 PM on Wednesday and Thursday, December 9 & 10, 2015 at the residence 6170 Fairmount Hwy SE, Calhoun, GA. A private graveside service will be Friday with Randy Sutherland and Gary Bowman officiating. Ronnie Van Dyke will be in charge of music. Burial will be at Gordon Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, GA. Arrangements have been entrusted to independently owned and operated Dalton Funeral Home, 620 S. Glenwood Ave. Dalton, GA; 706-529-5371.
