Debra Cargal, age 67, of Lafayette, Ga. passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. She was born May 11, 1957. She was preceded in death by her father, Judson Hilburn; mother, Daphine Hill Stancill; son, Scotty Cargal. Debra, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, touched countless lives with her kindness and warmth. She was a woman who found joy in life's simple pleasures, from traveling to tending to her garden. Her love for her family—children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—was boundless, and she extended that love to friends who became family. She cherished holidays, especially the Fourth of July, which brought her immense joy and memories to last a lifetime. Known for her willingness to lend a helping hand, Debra was a mother figure not only to her children but also to many friends she held dear. For years, she served her community as a bus driver, carrying her warm smile and compassionate spirit to all she encountered. Her legacy of love, kindness, and service lives on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her husband, Marion Cargal; son, Van Cargal (Tiffany); daughters, Chastity Durham (David), Freda Harrison (Timmy), Samantha Flood (Randall), Rhonda Crowder, Rebena Long and Kenneth Newberry; brothers, Billy Hilburn, Jackie Hilburn; aunts, Charlotte Manley, Linda White; sister in- law, Claire Bennett; grandchildren, Brandie, Scotty Jr., Tommy, Ashley, Caleb, Emily, Ethan, David III, Taylor, Chloe, Tristan, McKinlee, Aidan, Maclyn, Jaclyn, Melissa, Melaine, Braelan, Landon, Reagan; great grandchildren, Andrea Kay, Delilah, Matilda, Quincy; special nephew, Justin Hilburn. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Debra Cargal will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the Chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Smith officiating. Interment will be at Furnace Community Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends for visitation from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Dalton Funeral Home.
