Della Faye Wilson, 80, of Athens, Tennessee formerly of Chatsworth, Georgia went home to be with Lord October 22, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was born May 6, 1943 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Bascom and Cora Calfee. She was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Wilson; brothers, George Calfee, Willard Calfee, and Pete Calfee; sisters, Maxie Kincaid, Thelma Holt, Leona "Mutt" Hamilton, and Ruby "Patsy" Lee. Della was known as Hammer for many years; however, when her first grandson was born, she became known as Granny to almost everyone. Her children and grandchildren were her life. She loved being Granny, and she would get excited about whatever her grandchildren were doing. With a huge smile, she would clap her hands and tell them how well they were doing. Then she would tell anyone that would listen about them. Granny loved unconditionally. Wherever you were or whatever you were up to, she loved and sought out to check on you. She would call every day just to make sure you had everything you needed and let you know she loved you. She was a member of Fairview Church on Keith Valley Rd, Cleveland for many years. She loved to sing and loved a "party". Even in her last few weeks, singing would calm her. Getting family together to sing and eat was the "best time" ever. She also enjoyed crafting. Growing up we would have picnics on the hood of the car on the side of the road. She would help Patsy smuggle food into Disney for a clandestine picnic in the park. She loved to travel, especially to visit family. When all her kids and grandkids were at home for Thanksgiving or Christmas, we would play games, eat fudge, drink milk, and make hot chocolate. A cool breeze was an excuse enough for hot chocolate. Granny was very good at treats. She would get fried chicken livers for a treat in the park with her grandkids. Any excuse was a good excuse for a cookie or a brownie. Granny would plan their fishing trips to Shorty's Pond. Her plans would include getting Pawpaw to stop and get Vienna sausages, potted meat, crackers, and moon pies. She would always make sure Gracie had a book. When the grandkids would spend the night with her, they would race to get to sleep first, before the snoring began. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Wilson; son, Trevor (Lori) Wilson; grandchildren, Matthew "Alex" (Kelsey) Wilson, Caden Wilson, Cora Wilson, Grace Wilson, T.J. Wilson, Madilyn Lerch and William Southerland; great grandchildren, Noah Wilson, Carter Wilson, Miles Wilson, and Melody Wilson; sister, Dorothy "Coo" Charles; daughter-in-love, Sharon Wilson and many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Chatsworth Heights Cemetery in Chatsworth, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Alex, Caden, Cora, Grace, T.J., Madi; honorary pallbearers, Noah, Carter, Miles, Melody, William. In true Granny style, a celebration in her honor will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Fairview Church, 3245 Keith Valley RD SE Cleveland, TN. 37323. We will sing, tell stories and eat. Bring a song, memories, and a dish to celebrate her life. Arrangements have been entrusted to independently owned and operated Dalton Funeral Home, 620 S. Glenwood Ave. Dalton, GA 30721; 706-529-5371.
