Mr. Donald Lee Hawkins SR, 69, of Dalton, Georgia passed away on Sunday morning, October 6, 2013 at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by family and many friends. Born on October 25, 1943 in Dalton, Georgia, he was the son of the late Gordon and Frances Hawkins. He loved to go hunting and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Donald was married to the love of his life Joan Hawkins for 52 years and in addition to her, he is survived by his son and daughter in law, Donnie JR and Wendy Hawkins of Varnell; daughter, Tammy Townsend of Dalton; brother and sister in law, Clay and Rethel Hawkins of Nicklesville; brother, Greg Hawkins of Varnell; grandchildren, Brandon Townsend, Ryan Townsend, Hannah Hawkins, BB Hawkins and Zaya Hawkins; our very extended adoptive family over the years, who we love and cherish. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Donald Lee Hawkins SR will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Rev. Rick McCormick and Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Gary Brown, Justin Brown, Jordan Brown, Brandon Townsend, Ryan Townsend and Greg Hawkins will be serving as pallbearers. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
