DALTON, GA.- Earl S. Thompson, 77, died unexpectedly August 10, 2024, at his home in Dalton, Ga. He was born January 15, 1947, in Chattanooga, TN, the son of Earl R. Thompson, and Pauline A. Thompson. Earl Stanley Thompson attended East Ridge High School. Following High School, he served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam on the USS CONSTELLATION (CVA 64) from Aug. '64 to Dec. '67, and then served in the Army reserves until Aug. '70. Medals and Commendation Ribbons: Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, (3) Vietnam Service Medals, National Defense Service Medal, and (2) Navy Unit Commendation Ribbons. On August 12, 1989 he married Judy Atkinson, and they were married for 33 years, 6 months when Judy passed away unexpectedly February 13, 2023. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Sandra Kay Wall (Melvin Wall, deceased), and a son Earl Stanley Thompson, Jr. Surviving him is his son, Terry Lee Thompson (Melissa Rogers), daughter, Daphne Blackwell Cagle. Eight grandchildren, Brandi Ishelle Thompson, Annamarie K Thompson, Shyla Hope Thompson, Tucker Farley- Blake Thompson, Tiffany Monique Thompson, Brandon Jeffery Thompson, Tyler Stanley Thompson, and Alex Cross. Two sisters, Linda Thompson Smith (Jerry) Flat Rock, AL, Sheila Thompson, Montgomery, AL Nieces, and Nephews, Angela Norfolk (Rick) Eastern Shore, MD, Bill Tipton (Kim) Eastern Shore, MD, Brian Smith (Brooke) Flat Rock, AL, Shannon Anderson (Cristen) Flat Rock, AL, First Sergeant Jonathan P. Spoon (Danielle) Montgomery AL, Rev. Ryan Spoon (Lanissa) Sun City Center, FL. He is survived by his mother- in-law, Nannie Mae Atkinson, Brother-in-laws, Larry (Crystal), Rocky (Mary), LeeRoy (Christy), David (Angie), Randy, Mickey (Kelley), Sister-in-laws, Doris (Lewis), Martha (Kirby), Linda (George), Patsy (Bruce) and Renay. Nieces, and Nephews, survive him, many were just like his own children, and grandchildren to him. A service will be held at Dalton Funeral Home at 5:00 P.M on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, with friends visiting from 2:00 P.M – 5:00 P.M.
