Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Fred Foster, who departed this world peacefully on October 17, 2026, at the Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA. Born on January 1, 1950, in Pampa, TX, and raised in Oneida, TN, Fred’s journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and dedication to family, community, and country.

Fred was the beloved son of the late Dillard and Hulda Foster. He was preceded in death by his cherished son, Christopher Furrester, and his siblings, Phyllis Bowen, Patsy Kirser, Diana Hodges, Deann Foster, and David Foster. Fred’s life was a testament to the power of love and family, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by those who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Foster, whose partnership and love were the foundation of their family. Fred was a proud and loving father to Celeste Rodgers, Justin Foster, and Amanda Cartwright. His legacy continues through his 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense joy and pride for him. Fred is also survived by his brothers, Lewis Foster of Scott County, Howard Foster of Chatsworth, GA, Luke Foster of Jamestown, TN, and Donald Foster of Chatsworth, GA; sisters, Joyce Foster of Knoxville, TN, Dorsie Foster of Florida, and Georgia Forster of Oneida, TN; as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will remember his warmth and kindness fondly.

A proud veteran, Fred served his country with honor as a Corporal Paratrooper in the United States Army. His service reflected his commitment to duty and his courage—a spirit that he carried throughout his life.

After his military service, Fred dedicated 24 years to Shaw Industries, plant 3, where he was a respected and hardworking employee. His colleagues remember him for his diligence, integrity, and the camaraderie he brought to the workplace.

Fred Foster’s life was a testament to the power of family, service, and love. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave to others.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Fred’s life and pay their respects on October 21, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Dalton Funeral Home, located at 620 South Glenwood Ave, Dalton, GA 30721. It will be a time to honor a man who touched so many lives with his generosity and spirit. Interment will follow at Center Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery on Hwy 225, Chatsworth, GA.
