Gary Franklin Smith, age 51, of Dalton, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on November 29, 1963. Gary was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Smith; mother, Catherine Smith Wooten; and his grandparents, Henry and Willie Mae Parks, and James R. and Emma Garrett Smith. He is survived by his father, Harold Edward Smith of Tunnel Hill; brothers, Ricky Smith and his wife Lee Ann of Ringgold, Harold Smith, JR of Dalton, and James England of Calhoun; sisters, Louise and Amanda of Pennsylvania; special care giver and friend, Michael Chastain; aunts, Mary Huggins and her husband Roy, Flora Caldwell and her husband Kelly, and Martha Hastings; uncles, Glenn D. Smith and his wife Shirley, Mike Smith and his wife Darlene, and Kenneth Smith; many cousins, friends and neighbors. A special thank you to Connie, Wanda, Tammy and all of Hamilton Hospice for their good care. Also the family appreciates the devoted care by Michael Chastain and his son Stephen Chastain, RN for their assistance in caring for Gary. Visitation for Gary Franklin Smith will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2015. A funeral service will follow visitation at 12:00 PM at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Aumspaugh officiating. Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery.
