George "David" Owen, 74, of Whitfield County, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, David had lived in Dalton, Georgia since 1976. David graduated with a degree in chemistry in 1971. He was an unwavering supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs. David was an animal lover, a loving father, and a devoted Elks Lodge member. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jill Harden Owen; and his parents, George Owen and Elaine Owen. He is survived by Gwen Powell Dates (Stephen), his first wife, mother of his children, and lifelong friend; his son, Andrew David Owen (Allison) of Quitman, GA; his daughter, Amanda Owen Sheets (Bryan) of Orlando, FL; his step-daughter, Nicole Boozer Sherrill (Matt) of Dalton, GA; step-grandchildren, Colton and Brody Sherrill of Dalton, GA; his sisters, Nancy Davidson, Patricia Truluck (Eddie) and Janet Richmond (Dale); his brother, Timothy Owen; and several nieces, nephews, and many cousins. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. George "David" Owen will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the Chapel of Dalton Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends for visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Dalton Funeral Home. David loved animals of all kinds and often cared for homeless animals in his neighborhood. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia or an animal rescue or shelter of your choice in David's name.
