Obituary

Glenn Douglas Smith, a native of Dalton, Georgia, was born on March 6, 1945. He left this world peacefully on February 13, 2026, at the Health Center at Standifer Place, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Glenn dedicated 44 years of his life to his career as Head of Maintenance at Shaw, where he distinguished himself not only through his hard work but also through his genuine care for those around him. He was known for his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Beyond his professional achievements, Glenn was a loving husband to Shirley Smith and a devoted father to his cherished daughters, Glenda Dean and Holly Smith, as well as to his step-daughters, Angie Teasley and Denise Langford. His legacy continues with his grandchildren, Michael, Tanner, Casey, and his great granddaughters, Abri and Laya, all of whom he adored deeply, two brothers Mike and his wife Darlene, and Kenneth.

With a heart full of love, Glenn embodied the qualities of a great friend; he was always ready to lend a hand or share a smile. His involvement in the community extended to his cherished membership at Happy Valley Baptist Church, where he found fellowship, support, and a sense of belonging. He was more than just a member; he was a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for those who knew him.

A proud Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, Glenn's bravery and service to his country were testament to his character and dedication. He carried the values he learned during his time in service throughout his life, instilling those same values in his children and grandchildren.

Glenn now joins his beloved family members who have passed before him, including his parents, James Royce and Emma Garrett Smith, and his grandparents, Doshie Smith, Arenda Garrett, and Robert Garrett. He is also reunited with his brothers Harold and Milton, and sisters Flora, Kaye Emily, Martha, and Mary, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

As we gather to honor Glenn’s memory, we invite all those who knew and loved him to join us in commemorating his life. Visitation will be held on February 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Dalton Funeral Home, 620 S Glenwood Ave, Dalton, GA 30721.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness, forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Glenn Douglas Smith will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of so many.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Health Center at Standifer Place, and Steve Rich.
