Gwen Cox, born on May 9, 1951, in the serene town of Chatsworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at Hamilton Medical Center. Her journey through life was marked by unwavering love and kindness, the light and heartbeat of her family, and a spirit that touched all who knew her.
Gwen worked diligently in quality control within the textile industry, where her dedication and loving nature quietly reflected her commitment to excellence. Yet, it was her role beyond her career where she truly shined, she was a loving and awesome mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and stepmother. To her family, Gwen was a beacon, a guiding light whose warmth and strength held everyone together through life’s joys and challenges.
Her family will remember a woman who found joy in the simple pleasures, she had a particular fondness for flea markets, reveling in the treasures and stories they held. This love for discovery and her generous heart made her beloved by everybody, weaving a tapestry of affection and respect that crossed generations and friendships alike.
Gwen is survived by her sons, Kevin Vineyard and Johnny (Angela) Vineyard, along with her daughter, Selena Ooten. Her stepchildren, Tina Long, Joey Bennett, and Adam Bennett also hold a special place in her heart. The love she gave blossomed through her many grandchildren, Brittany (Dakota) Worley, Travis Vineyard, James Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Austin (Emily) Long, and Corey Long, and extended even further to great-grandchildren Alice Bennett, Javed Bennett, Courtney Bennett, Addie Martin, Sailor Martin, Amori Flores, Braylee Rollins, Bryar Worley, and Vineet Long. She was also loved by her nieces and nephews, Bill Early, Tony Early, Willie Ruth Early, Malija Early, and Michael Early.
Though Gwen’s beloved husband, Billie Jo Bennett, and daughter-in-law, Diane Vineyard, has passed on before her, her memory lives through the living legacy of those she cherished and nurtured.
The family invites all who knew Gwen to honor her life and legacy at Dalton Funeral Home, 620 S Glenwood Ave, Dalton, GA 30721.
