Mr. Horace "Gene" Burchfield Sr, age 78, of Dalton, Georgia passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, December 18, 2021. Mr. Burchfield was born in Dalton, GA on August 5, 1943 to the late Charlie and Edna Burchfield of Dalton. Horace served in the US Army from 1964-1968. He also attended Metropolitan (Metropolitan) Beauty School where he obtained his cosmetology license and went on to co-own and then own the Monte Carlo Beauty Shop. He left the cosmetology world in the 1970's and went to work in road construction where he worked for companies such as Jasper Construction, Apac, E.R. Shell, Vulcan Materials, and Dalton Paving upon his retirement. Horace was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending his time restoring antique radios, Sunday dinner with his family, and spending time with his friends. Horace was preceded in death by his parents; his late wife, Norma J. Burchfield of Dalton, GA; and his siblings, Donny Ray Burchfield, Charles "Butch" Burchfield, Sherry Stevens, and Robert Burchfield all of Dalton, GA. Horace is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tim Prather of Cartersville, GA; and his son, Horace "Geno" Burchfield, Jr of Dalton ,GA; He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alicia and Christopher Jenkins, Lynette Justice, Andrea Harper, Heith Harper, Katie Prather, John Prather, and Ariel Prather; great grandchildren, Adam Jenkins, Norean "Nora" Jenkins, Lyla Jenkins, Hayden Harper, Charles Justice, Emma Justice, and Jaxton Harper; sister, Annette Kuhn; brother, Jerry Burchfield; as well as nieces and nephews. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Horace "Gene" Burchfield Sr will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation from 2-8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Burchfield's grandsons, Christopher Jenkins, and Heith Harper along with nephews, Kevin Holsomback, Eric Stone, Daniel Burchfield, and Jerry Jenkins.
