James Roy Starks, Sr., age 86, of Dalton, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Hamilton Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 22, 1930 to Clifford and Carrie Starks. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Starks; son, James "Jimmy" R. Starks, Jr.; parents; Clifford and Carrie Starks; brother, Troy Starks; sisters, Annie Jo Allman, Louise Hardin, Margaret Gravitt; and a grandson, Anthony Cooper. Roy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Diane Starks of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Michael Tedder of Chatsworth, Carol Starks of Dalton, Teresa Starks and Gerald Parks of Dalton, Sharon and Adrian Newton of Chatsworth; 20 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren; chosen daughter and son, Vickie and Tony Bartczak and family; several nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service to celebrate the life of James Roy Starks, Sr. will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, June 23, 2017 at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Starks and Bro. Johnny Beason officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Lamar Beason officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
