Celebrating the life of James "Doc" Tanner, age 87. Born on November 30, 1929, he went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 15, 2017. Doc was greeted in heaven by his loving wife Hazel Tanner just days after what would have been their 66th wedding anniversary. He was also greeted by his two children, Patsy and Randy Lamar; his parents and all of his siblings were there along with many relatives and loved ones to welcome him home. He was a wonderful father to his children, Terry Tanner and his wife Sharon from Pason, AZ, Jo Collins and her husband John from Dalton, GA, Annetta Deegear and her husband Mark from Fort Worth, TX; he had numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends. Doc was also a minister for the Church of God of the Union Assembly. He pastored several churches in his years of ministry. From Arizona, Indiana, Texas and Georgia where so many special people became family. He served our country as an honorable soldier in the United States Army. His passion other than his church is his place in the Masonic Lodge. He held several positions not only in Georgia but in Texas he held several duel lifetime memberships to several lodges. He also enjoyed his membership to the order of the Eastern Star. His Masonic Brothers and his Eastern Star Sisters became a bigger edition to the Tanner family. The viewing for all family and loved ones will be held at the Dalton Funeral Home in Dalton, GA on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 5-9 PM. The funeral will be on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Church of God of the Union Assembly in Dalton, GA with Bro. Lonnie Starnes and Bro. Charlie Pratt officiating. Immediately following funeral will be a graveside ceremony at West Hill Cemetery conducted by the Military and the Masonic Lodge.
