Obituary

Jonnie Mae Mullinax, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at Hamilton Medical Center, closing a cherished chapter in a life measured by love, labor, and boundless care for those around her. Born on March 18, 1937, in the gentle hills of Catoosa County, Georgia, Jonnie’s years were rooted in her unwavering devotion to family, friends, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful.

Jonnie Mae Mullinax, was the daughter of Frank Smith and Rosa Harrell. Her early years were colored by the warmth of a close-knit family and the enduring presence of her siblings, George "Boots" Walter Smith and Bertha "Birdy" Hall, both of whom preceded her in death. These years in Jonnie a love of nurturing of both people and plants, that would carry through the rest of her days.

Her steadfast spirit and gentle hands found their calling in the world of work, where she excelled as a Binder Operator for many carpet sample businesses, with her last position at True Sample. To colleagues and friends alike, Jonnie was more than a reliable worker; she was the gentle heart of every room, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.

But her proudest legacy was surely her family. She was the devoted wife of R.L. Mullinax, who passed before her, and together they built a home defined by laughter, care, and unwavering support. She carried that same devotion as a mother to her beloved daughter, Roxanna Laney, who survives her and whose life reflects the lessons of kindness, strength, and generosity Jonnie instilled. Her love further blossomed into the next for her brother, Robert Smith, grandson, Jason Phillips, and great granddaughter, Kaila Phillips, who carry her memory forward with pride.

Jonnie’s passions illuminated every corner of her life. She found peace and purpose in gardening. The joy of the kitchen was another of her gifts, her cooking warmed countless gatherings, while her crochet and knitting projects were expressions of her love.

To her family, Jonnie Mae Mullinax was the heart of the home, a constant presence, an attentive listener, and a gentle guide. Her love was the quiet force shaping holidays, milestones, and ordinary afternoons. Her laughter is remembered in kitchen conversations, her wisdom in the tender advice she freely gave, and her warmth in the hugs and smiles she never withheld. To those who loved her, she was not just a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was the center of their worlds.

As Jonnie’s earthly journey comes to a close, her family and friends are invited to celebrate her life and honor her memory. Visitation will be held at Dalton Funeral Home, 620 S Glenwood Ave, Dalton, GA, on June 24, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the same location.
