Julia Marie “Marie” Gibbons, beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on June 18, 1957, in Summerville, Georgia, Marie was raised in Dawnville, where she learned the values of hard work, loyalty, and unconditional love. She spent most of her life working in textiles, but her greatest devotion was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren were her heart’s deepest joy.

To her grandchildren, she was Mamaw a grandmother, a second mother, and a constant source of strength. She raised them with the same fierce love she gave her own children, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for the people she loved. Marie was the strongest, most understanding, and most forgiving person her family has ever known.

She poured her heart into raising her children: Stephanie Plott, Chad Williams, and Demisha Gibbons. As well as her grandchildren: Keysha Jones, Cameron Winkler, Anna Jones, Paisley, Emma Hampton, Aliah Hampton, Adrianna Williams, Savannah Williams, Cameron Williams, Macaiah Williams, Nevaeh Blue, and Cole Blue

Marie is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Rice, Glenda Crowley, and Alisa Drain; her brother, James Nichols; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her father, Quiller “Nick” Nichols; her mother, Julia “Bea” Nichols; her grandmother, Nannie Mae Nichols; her sister, Brenda Sue Nichols; and her brothers, Larry Q. Nichols, John W. Nichols, Raymond E. Nichols, and Gary D. Nichols.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM at Dalton Funeral Home.

Marie’s legacy is one of strength, love, and unwavering devotion a legacy that will continue to live on through the generations she cherished most.
