JW Smith, age 67, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at home with his loving wife Belinda and special sister Angie by his side. He was born December 12, 1953 in Dalton, son of the late Hulen Smith Sr. and Frances Crider Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hulen Jr., Edward, James, and Marion Smith, and his sister, Mary Frances Overby. JW was a remarkable man loved by many for his generosity, kindness, and razor-sharp wit. He will be remembered for his grit and hustle, his skill at cards, his penchant for numbers, and his amazing ability to tell a good story. To say he will be missed is an understatement. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Belinda; daughter and son-in-law Tiffany Ball and Mike Kolassa of Detroit, Michigan; sister Elizabeth Scroggins of Tunnel Hill, GA; brothers and sister-in-law Floyd Smith of Chatsworth, GA, T.W. Smith of Rocky Face, GA, Thomas and Chris Smith of Tunnel Hill, GA; several nieces and nephews; and special brothers Tommy Lee Hunt and Doug Saab of Birmingham, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at West Hill Cemetery on Monday, December 21 at 2:00 in the afternoon. Before his death, JW requested that all those in attendance wear a mask, be mindful of social distancing, and spread love with "air hugs" to protect his loved ones. Brother Lonnie Starnes will deliver the service. Tiffany will provide the eulogy. Mike Kolassa, Haskel Bartlett, Barry Elrod, Justin Dixon, and Chad Bartlett will be the pallbearers.
