Our sister, Martha Smith Hastings, 69, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at Quinton Memorial Health and Rehabilitation. Martha was the daughter of the late James R. and Emma Garrett Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Walter G. and Doshie Lee Smith. Maternal grandparents were Robert and Arenda Teems Garrett. She was preceded in death by one sister, Kay Emily Smith, and one brother, Horace Milton Smith. Martha greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, singing karaoke, dancing, and shopping. Getting together with her brothers and sisters was her favorite pastime. Martha is survived by her sisters, Flora Caldwell (Kelly) and Mary Huggins (Leroy). Brothers are Harold (Willie), Glenn (Shirley), Michael (Darlene), and Kenneth. Cousins are Ralph Smith and Robert Garrett. The family is very appreciative of the staff and nurses at Quinton for their prayers, loving care, and friendship to Martha and to her family. The family will have a private service for Martha, officiated by Reverend Ron Taylor. She will be buried at West Hill Cemetery.
