Michael Eugene Tedder, 74, passed away at home in Ellijay, Georgia at 2:00 pm on Saturday May 9th, 2026. Michael was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of Gene and Julia Tedder.
He graduated from Joseph E. Brown High School in 1969. Michael attended DeKalb College. He served in the Air National Guard for six years from 1971 to 1977. Michael was a Staff Sergeant in the 116th Civil Engineer Squadron and the 116th Weapons Systems Security Flight at Dobbins Air Force Base. In 1984 he wed Deborah (Starks) Tedder and they were married for 42 years. Michael retired from Sears, Roebuck & Co. and later retired from Murray County School System where he was a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration technician. Michael was an avid outdoorsman. His membership letter was at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Chatsworth, Georgia. He served the Lord on numerous mission trips both in the United States and abroad.
Michael was preceded in death by his father Gene Tedder, mother Julia Tedder, father-in-law Roy Starks, mother-in-law Kathleen Starks, uncle Ralph Gilmer, and brother-in-law Jimmy Starks. He is survived by his wife Deborah Tedder, childhood best friend Jimmy Hancock, aunt Betty (Tedder) Gilmer, brother David Tedder, sister Jan (Tedder) Lowman, brothers-in-law Barrie Lowman, Michael McKee and Billy Starks, sisters-in-law Jan Tedder, Carol Starks, Teresa Starks, Sharon McKee, Diane Starks, sons Clif Tedder, Eric Tedder, Michael D.J. Tedder, Dennis Powers, Dewayne Powers, daughter Angela Nowitzke, son-in-law Tyler Nowtizke, daughters-in-law Rebekah Tedder, Ashley Tedder, Heather Powers, April Powers, grandsons Nolan Tedder, Owen Tedder, Jackson Tedder, Stanley Powers, Tate Powers, Gavon Wishon, Jesse Nowitzke, granddaughters Emery Tedder, Lily Tedder, Rachel Tedder, Anslei Powers, Aspen Powers, Mikayla Lynn, Avianna Nowitzke, and great-granddaughter Paislee Powers.
Dalton Funeral Home in Dalton, Georgia will provide services on Wednesday May 13th, 2026. The family will receive friends at 12:00 pm and at 3:00 pm Deacon Billy Starks will officiate. Interment will be at Center Valley Cemetery in Chatsworth, Georgia, Deacon Dewayne Powers conducting the closing committal prayer. Zion Hill Baptist Church will provide a meal for the family following the service.
