Obituary

Minnie Sutton Minter, 90, of Crandall, Georgia, passed away at her home on October 15, 2026. Born on April 10, 1936, to James Archie Sutton and Mayebelle Carter Sutton, Minnie lived a life rooted in faith, devoted to family, and filled with love.

As a young woman, Minnie served as an evangelist for the Church of God of Prophecy. During those years, she became close friends with Pat and Gerald Minter. Pat loved Minnie so much that she introduced her to Gerald’s brother, Bob. Minnie was 18 when they met, and they began a five-year courtship that led to 66 years of marriage. Bob was the love of her life, and she faithfully supported him in his ministry. Minnie also had a beautiful voice and played both guitar and piano.

To her children, she was Mama—the heart of their family. She expressed her love in countless everyday ways: a table filled with homemade food, clothes carefully sewn, a crocheted blanket for a newborn, and the steady reminder that God ordered their steps. She loved her Savior and continued worshiping Him through the final days of her life.

Minnie was an exceptional seamstress who turned down a scholarship to focus on raising her children. She made much of their clothing, including Batman capes, Dorothy dresses, gowns, pajamas, doll clothes, and even a child’s wedding gown with a veil and flowers. Her hands were rarely idle, and the things she made became treasured expressions of her love.

Minnie’s kitchen was another place where that love took shape. She was known for her biscuits, fried chicken, okra, pinto beans, and pecan pie. She always offered someone else the last piece, and when supper was ready, she expected everyone at the table when she called. Although she might announce, “We’re not going to spend the day in the kitchen,” she planned a menu that would leave the table loaded with food.

Minnie loved Christmas and big band music, especially the Glenn Miller Band. Her children remember many Saturday mornings waking to music playing throughout the house.

She enjoyed watching The Lawrence Welk Show, The Waltons, All in the Family, and The Carol Burnett Show, and later, the Hallmark Channel. Her favorite Christmas movies included Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story.

She had a special love for babies and could never resist stopping to interact with one. She never met a stranger. By the time she checked out, she knew a person’s life history. Her familiar Southern expressions, quick responses, and unmistakable personality gave her family stories they will tell for years. She welcomed her in-laws as family and had a remarkable way of making each person feel like her favorite.

Minnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Minter; her parents, James Archie and Mayebelle Carter Sutton; an infant brother; and her siblings, Beatrice Sutton Rowe, Archie Vilous Sutton, Geneva Sutton Beasley, Benny Eldon Sutton, Opal Sutton Clayton, Mildred Sutton Stafford, Ruth Sutton Simmons, and Johnny Sutton. She was also preceded in death by in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her children, Mark (Trina) Minter of Rincon, Georgia; Cheri (Warren) Mahan of Dahlonega, Georgia; Vanessa (Martin) Denney of Longwood, Florida; and Phil (Tina) Minter of Trion, Georgia.

She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Devin (Kristin) Mahan, Phillip Minter, Chloe (Ondra) Brothanek, Caleb Denney, Paige Minter, and Peyton Minter; and her great-grandchildren, Grace Mahan and Lily Mahan.

Minnie’s legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the faith she shared, and the many ways she made those around her feel loved. Her family will forever remember Mama’s full table, her generous hands, and the love that made her the heart of their home.

Our family thanks Larry Sampson for his kindness to our mother.
