Obituary

Mrs. Patricia Ann "Pat" Powell, age 78, of Dalton, Georgia passed away at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, July 16, 2022. She was happily married to Norman Edward "Eddie" Powell for 56 years. Pat was born on September 20, 1943, in Portsmouth VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vera Marie Dillard Howell and James Dennis "Dink" Howell; sister Janice Marie "Jan" Quarles and husband Jimmy; sister-in-law Francis Howell; and former daughter-in-law Stacey Powell. She is survived by her husband Eddie; son and daughter-in-law Norman and Ginger Powell; daughter Cindy Leigh Powell; brother Robert "Bobby" Howell of Dalton; brother and sister-n-law Rev. James "Jim" and Julie Howell of Murrayville; granddaughter Sarah Ann Powell and great granddaughter Macey; nephews Chris Quarles (Anita) and David Powell, and niece Megan Robinson (Jason); several great nieces and nephews whom she loved; and special friends Sandy and Billie Jean. Pat and her family relocated to Dalton in 1957 after the death of her father, graduating from Dalton High School four short years later in 1961. She met and married Eddie in 1965, giving birth to their son Norman in 1966 and their daughter Cindy in 1969. Pat was as genuine of a person you would ever meet, and she never met a stranger. She was kind, generous and compassionate, all traits that many of us attain to. Pat loved her family and extended family fiercely, especially her only granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She always enjoyed family gatherings at her mom's house, during holidays and other special events, as well as family trips to the beach. These were cherished times. Pat loved her church family at Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught her son and daughter and many others the importance of attending church and learning and growing through Jesus Christ. Pat was a guiding light who volunteered both with the PTA and at church, also supporting many animal causes over the years. In her younger years, Pat had a rewarding career and enjoyed her work at CRI, The First National Bank of Dalton, and Kinard Reality where she met and made many lifelong friends whom she loved dearly. While at the First National Bank of Dalton, many would say she was the voice behind the bank for every customer that called. Pat had a gift for conversation and connection, having the ability to convey genuine interest in whoever she was talking to. In other words, Pat never met a stranger, either in person or over the phone. Visitation and funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 19, 2022, at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Rev Jim Howell officiating. Interment will be at Westhill Cemetery in Dalton. The family will be receiving friends for visitation from 12:00-2:00PM on Tuesday with the service at 2:00PM. Dogs and cats were very special to Pat. In lieu of flowers, Pat would have loved you donate to or volunteer at The Humane Society of Northwest Georgia at hsnwga.org located in Dalton GA or donate or volunteer at an animal shelter nearest to you. Arrangements have been entrusted to independently owned and operated Dalton Funeral Home, 620 S. Glenwood Ave. Dalton, GA 30721; 706-529-5371.
