Obituary

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 13:35 Rev. Pratt Hughes of Ringgold, GA went home to be with Jesus peacefully in his sleep after a swift battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 73. He passed just before 3 PM on Saturday, November 5th. He was born on October 6,1949, to Tobe and Flora Hughes. As a young man, Pratt was a paramedic serving in Corbin, Kentucky. Pratt dedicated a lifetime of ministry serving as pastor, State Overseer, Supreme Council member, and most recently as Assistant General Overseer in The Church of God of the Union Assembly. In addition to his ministry, Pratt served the Catoosa County Public Schools for the past 10 years as a special needs school bus driver. As hobbies, he loved spending time at the beach with his beautiful wife, children, and grandchildren who knew him as "Pops". Pratt and his wife enjoyed so many beautiful memories together through their love of ministry and music. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, walks in the park, card games at home with family, enjoying the backyard and pool with his wife, and last but not least, sharing his funny stories (some repeatedly) along with his favorite sayings, such as: "Wipe your chin off…can't do it can you?" ; "Too blessed to be stressed." It is a consolation knowing that he left this life surrounded by his loving wife and four step-children whom he loved and treated as if they were his own. The family is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and care from surrounding family, friends, and church family. Pratt is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marcia Hughes; son Marty Gibbs and wife Julia; daughter Marshanda Pinchok and husband Jeff; son Jatasey Gibbs and Fiancé Cynthia Mathews; daughter Cindy Gibbs; grandchildren Graham and Elliott Gibbs; Ella and Brady Pinchok; brother Jesse W. Hughes and wife Jean; Sisters-in-Law Margaret Hughes and Patricia Hughes, and many nieces, nephews, and host of family. Deceased brothers and sisters include Paul Hughes, Minnie Kate Hobbs, Johnny Hughes, George Hughes, and Joanne Richardson. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Rev. Pratt Hughes will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at The Church of God of the Union Assembly, Dalton, Ga. with Rev. Paul Thomas Hughes, Rev. Allen Massingill, Rev. Rodney Kennedy, Rev. Charlie Pratt officiating. Interment will be held at West Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends for visitation at The Church of God of the Union Assembly, Dalton, Ga. from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 9, 2022.
