Obituary

Sammy "Sam" Hamrick, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at his residence on August 17, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on February 11, 1944, in Calhoun, Georgia, Sam built a life defined by devotion to his family, a passion for lifelong hobbies, and a kindness that touched all who knew him.

Sammy was a proud son from Calhoun, the child of Grady and Naomi Hamrick, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in a bustling and loving household surrounded by siblings, developing the core values of loyalty, hard work, and compassion that he carried throughout his life.

Family meant everything to Sam. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Shirley Hamrick, who stood by his side through all seasons of life. He cherished his children—Rickey Hamrick, Tonya Wininger, and step-son, Paul Bryson, Sam’s family circle was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each one treasured and adored. Mother to his children also survives, Edith Hamrick.

He is also survived by his sisters, Eloise Delsaldo and Barbara Dixon, who shared in the joys and challenges of a close-knit family. Though he has now rejoined siblings who passed before him—Jay and Rass Hamrick, Jenevelyn Dugger, Vilone Olmstead, Gina Davenport, Deborah Hamrick, and Ann Griggs—their bonds remain unbroken by time or distance. Sam’s loving mother-in-law, Willard Luffman, rests among those who passed before him as well.

A man of many talents and interests, Sam was a valued member of the radio club—a place where his camaraderie and quick wit were deeply appreciated. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in both hunting and fishing, pursuits that brought him closer to nature and allowed him to revel in the beauty of the world around him. His love of photography immortalized countless memories and moments, allowing others to see through his eyes the wonder he felt for his surroundings.

Sam also delighted in building model planes and restoring sewing machines, hobbies that showcased his patience and masterful hands. Pool was a lifelong passion, a game he played with skill, precision, and friendly competition. And there was little he enjoyed more than riding his motorcycle.

Sammy Hamrick will be remembered not only for his rich collection of interests but most for the genuine love he showed his family and friends. He was universally loved, his warm spirit and generous nature leaving an enduring mark on every heart he touched.

The family invites friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance and celebration of Sam’s life during visitation hours on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dalton Funeral Home, 620 S Glenwood Ave, Dalton, GA 30721. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Friday, August 21, 2026, beginning at 3:00 PM.

Sammy "Sam" Raford Hamrick’s legacy is cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, and all who had the good fortune to know him. His presence, warmth, and laughter will live on in the memories and hearts of those he loved so dearly.
