Mr. Sammy "Sam" Russell Jones, age 75, of Dalton, GA passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022. He was born on January 12, 1947. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Velma Jones; mother and father in law, U.Z. and Frances Cowart; and aunts, Betty Dallimore, Bea McDonald, and Betty Ledbetter. Mr. Jones was a member of Grand Lodge of Georgia, Dalton Masonic Blue Lodge #105, Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Georgia, Wilford H. Hall Chapter #80, Walton C. Griffin Council #36, St. Johns Commandery #19, The Grand Encampment of Knights Templar, Scottish Rite Valley of Atlanta, Yarrab Shrine Temple of Atlanta, Dalton Shrine Club #5, General Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Tilton Chapter #525 of Dalton, American Legion Post 112 of Dalton, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston #671, Commander of the SCV of Dalton, Civil War Roundtable of Dalton, 35th Tenn Reenactment, VFW of Dalton. Mr. Jones is also a Vietnam War Veteran who proudly served his country. He is survived by his loving wife of their home for 18 years, Ellen Jones; children, Kenny (Beth) Lovelace-Hall, Margie (Kenny) Brackett; grandchildren, Kendra Hall, Grayson Hall, Ella Hall, Ben Smith, English Brackett, Broley Brackett, all of Dalton; sister and brother in laws, Mary Ann (Walt) Carroll of Tunnel Hill, James (Dianne) Cowart of Chatsworth, and Shelia Cowart of Dalton; aunts, Peggy (Mike) Patterson, Hazel (Lloyd) Campbell, Nell Stankewicz; uncle, Frank (Elaine) Shepard; and several cousins. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sammy "Sam" Russell Jones will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 in the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Brinkley officiating. Interment will be at Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends for visitation from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Dalton Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Chris McDonald, Eddie McDonald, Mike Patterson, Billy Jones, Mark Jones, and Daniel Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dalton Shrine Club. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Hospital are accepted.
