Sanford "Leon" Brewer, age 74, of Calhoun, Georgia went home to be with his Lord on Friday, April 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Sanford Leon was born on May 26, 1940 in Bloomington, Indiana to George W. Brewer and Goldie M. Angleton Brewer. He grew up in Frankfort and Kokomo, IN. He received an honorable discharge from the US Army August 24, 1957. He was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad for 42 years until his retirement in 2002. He was a member in The Church of God of the Union Assembly in Dalton for 20 years where he was also a Deacon for 16 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Brewer and Goldie Marie Brewer; grandsons, Joshua Timothy Brewer and Steven W. Massingill; brothers, George W. Brewer, JR,  Monroe "Bill" Stout, C. Leroy Stout, Robert E. Brewer, Norman L. Brewer, and Ronnie J. Brewer. Sanford Leon was married to Edna J. Evans Brewer of Calhoun for 50 years. Along with his wife he is also survived by his sons, Rodney E. Brewer and his wife Janice of Ellijay, GA, Timothy L. Brewer of Calhoun; a daughter, Tonya M. Brewer Kile and her husband Timothy of Calhoun; 8 grandchildren, Tonya C. Curtis, Sheena Deann Brewer, Rodney Leon Brewer, Olivia M. Brewer, Whitney N. Kile, JuLeah G. Kile, Jordan M. Kile, Joseph Attoh III; 4 great grandchildren, Eric Curtis, Britany Curtis, Tyler Massingill, Triston Massingill, MiLayah L. Bryant; 2 great great grandchildren; brothers, Ed Huffer of Florida and Rex A. Brewer of Florida; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Sanford "Leon" Brewer will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at The Church of God of the Union Assembly in Dalton with Pastor Pratt Hughes, Rev. Donny Hughes and Pastor Wesley Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery, Calhoun, GA. Rodney Leon Brewer, Darren Gleaton, Bill Gleaton, Paul Sneed, Matthew Johnson, Jordan M. Kile and Sawyer Bryant will serve as pallbearers. The family will be receiving friends for visitation from 5:00 till 9:00 Pm on Monday evening at the funeral home. Leon will be laid in state at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 PM till the hour of service.
