Shirley Wanda Hollums, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at Hamilton Medical Center in her hometown of Dalton, Georgia. Born on September 20, 1942, in Dalton, Shirley’s life was marked by a deep faith and a heart full of love and generosity that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A godly woman in every sense, Shirley dedicated her life to nurturing and reassuring those around her. She had an infectious love for the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons, bringing joy and excitement to family gatherings rooted in shared devotion to these teams. Her passion for reading reflected her thirst for knowledge and understanding, while her forgiving nature showed the strength and grace that defined her spirit. Always giving her very best, Shirley’s warmth and kindness created a sanctuary of comfort and hope for those who needed it most.
Shirley’s professional life was anchored by her long and dedicated career working for Shaw, where she remained a valued and respected employee until her retirement. Her work ethic mirrored her approach to life, steadfast, dependable, and grounded in integrity.
She leaves behind a cherished family who carry forward her legacy of love and strength. Her daughter, Tammy Smith, along with her sons, John (Cindy) Hollums Jr. and Christopher (Brandy) Hollums, mourn the profound loss of their mother. Shirley was also a treasured grandmother to Joseph Hollums, Audrey Hollums, Noah Hollums, Evelyn Hollums, Joshua (Tiffany) Fowler, Jordan Fowler, and Jacob (Katelyn) Fowler. Her great-grandchildren, Jaice Fowler, Jayla Fowler, Kai Fowler, Jaxson Fowler, and Cooper Antle, along with many other family members and friends, will forever remember her nurturing presence and unconditional love.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Vernon Hollaway and Elizabeth Wimpey Hollaway, sibling’s, Coy Jr, Donald, Vonnie, Geneva, Nellie Jean, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.
A visitation will be held on June 14, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by the funeral service starting at 3:00 PM, both at Dalton Funeral Home, located at 620 S Glenwood Ave, Dalton, GA. Family, friends, and all whose lives Shirley touched are invited to celebrate a life beautifully lived and honor the enduring imprint she leaves upon their hearts.
As we say goodbye to Shirley Wanda Hollums, we remember a woman whose love was boundless, whose spirit was uncompromisingly kind, and whose faith carried her through every chapter of her remarkable life. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
