Obituary

Mrs. Star Jackson Panter, age 73, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021, at home, surrounded by those she loved dearly. Star was a precious soul, and to know her, was to love her – she was a true friend to all. Sweet, humble, kind, generous, loving, soft-spoken, and faithful are just a few of the words that describe this amazing woman. Her passing leaves a void that can't be filled as she truly was one of a kind. Though she was never blessed with children of her own, she loved kids, and they loved her! She was like a mother/grandmother to many lucky little ones over the years. Star was born in Dalton, Georgia on October 6, 1948. She was the first-born of the late Quinn (Buck) Jackson and the late Betty Jackson McCarson. She was also preceded in death by step-sons, Michael and Julian Panter; step-daughter, Celina Panter; and step-father, Carl McCarson. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Panter of the home; and step-daughter, Melissa (Gene) Wright of Oklahoma; step-son, Monty Garner of Dalton; brothers, Quinn (Colleen) Jackson of Alabama, and Collian (Kay) Jackson of Chatsworth; sisters, Debi Jackson Durham of Dalton, and Sheila (Alan) Davis of Alabama. Also surviving are nephews, Charlie Stacy (April) Durham of Chattanooga, Joseph Jackson of Oregon, and Blake Jackson of Massachusetts; and two great-nephews, Jake and Logan Durham; also step-siblings, Phillip (Barbara) McCarson, Tony (Becky) McCarson, Phyllis Ihrie, and Judy (Keith) Hilliard all of North Carolina, and Ronnie (Cindy) McCarson of Alabama. Many cousins and other family members also survive, as well as her best friends, Libby Scott and Wanda Beavers of Chatsworth. Star was of the Baptist faith and attended A Place To Worship and was also a former member of Friendship Baptist Church. She loved gospel music and loved to sing. When we say Star was a friend to all, we mean it! She not only loved people, she loved animals – ALL animals. She was passionate about all God's little creatures, and would often take in strays – be they feathered creatures or little furry ones. She used to prepare special meals for her fur babies, and would put food outside for the wild animals – the squirrels loved her as she provided them with plenty of peanuts! Star's heart was full of love, and she will be missed more than words can say. Her light now shines in Heaven! A special thank you to Homestead Hospice for your care and kindness during Star's illness.
