Tom David Hicks, Sr., age 79, of Dalton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Hamilton Medical Center, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. Born on June 2, 1946, in Chatsworth, Georgia, David was the son of the late Lula and Charlie Ingle and A.J. Hicks. He grew up with a strong work ethic and a natural gift for leadership, qualities that would follow him throughout his life. David helped establish Harvest Carpet, Inc., alongside his partner Ronald Dycus where he proudly served as co‑owner. His dedication to the business and the people he worked with left a lasting mark on the community. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, brother, and friend. To many, he was the "big brother" they could count on, steady, protective, and always ready to lend a hand. His presence filled every room, and his kindness reached far beyond his immediate family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Darlene Gowens Hicks; his son, David (Penny) Hicks of Dalton; his daughter, Sherry (Lin) Hicks Bevans of Calhoun; and his brother, David (Jennifer) Ingle of Rossville. He is also survived by his sisters, Teresa (Bobby) Reeves of Fairmount, Flora (Jeff) Smith of Tunnel Hill, Minnie Davis of Chatsworth, and Lynn (Ira) Hefner of Cohutta. David leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Ricky Green, Randall Green, Savannah Flowers, Landon Hicks, Rachel Blake, and Andrew Price, as well as several great‑grandchildren, nieces and nephews who brought him endless joy. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leisa Hicks Kyle; his brothers, Johnny Hicks and Charlie Ingle Jr.; and his sister, Ann Maddron. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
