Velva "Jean" Swinney Harris, age 78, of Dalton, Georgia passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021. She was born on June 26, 1943. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ben Lee Holder and Roxie Earlene "Thomas" Holder; son, Danny Edward Swinney; daughter, Tammy Earlene Swinney; brothers, Guy Holder, Marlen Holder, Clarence Holder, Dan Holder, and Oscar Holder; sisters, Frances Collins and Janelle Holder; grandchild, Stephanie Eads. She is survived by her former spouse, best friend, and father of her children, Earl Swinney; daughters, Carol (Courtney) Whitfield of Chatsworth, Donna (Steve) Eads of Dalton; sister, Margie Trammell of Cartersville; grandchildren, Keri Beal, Emily Chambers, Krista Kelly, Ryan Lewis, Tyler Lewis, Lori Nix, Melody Eads, Alaina Huskey, and Lexi Earwood; and 17 great grandchildren. She was a member of Tilton Baptist Church. The family wants to give a special thanks to Heart Lite Hospice. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Velva "Jean" Swinney Harris will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home. Dr. Randell E. Trammell and Chaplain Scott Smith will be officiating. Interment will be at Union Grove Baptist Church in Calhoun.
